Pre-mixed mortar, to be mixed with water only, made from cement and quartz sand, with added air-entraining and water-repellent agents, for creating water-repellent and breathable plasters known as dehumidifying plasters, as they are designed to dry out wall surfaces affected by rising damp and to prevent efflorescence and the growth of mould. The capillary system, deactivated by the hydrophobic treatment of the ‘Risan Spritz’ plaster, prevents the capillary migration of water both from the atmosphere into the masonry and vice versa, ensuring that the plaster remains dry at all times. At the same time, the high porosity of the plaster allows moisture to escape from the wall in the form of vapour. Where water-soluble salts are present in the wall in modest quantities Risan Spritz, it prevents efflorescence by keeping the salts in solution within the wall and thus avoiding harmful crystallisation on the surface.
Product preparation
Mixing water: approx. 17–19 per cent, equivalent to 4.25–4.75 litres per 25 kg bag. It is recommended to add approx. two-thirds of the mixing water first, then pour in the remaining water. Approximate mixing times at +20 °C (these depend greatly on the mixer’s speed and the ambient temperature).
N.B.: The mix should become light and fluffy.
The mix prepared in this way can be used immediately; if it is left to stand for more than 30 minutes, it must be stirred briefly, adding small amounts of water if necessary to restore it to the correct consistency. Risan Spritzcan be applied using a continuous-mix plastering machine such as Turbosol, PFT, Putzmeister or similar.
Preparation and application instructions
Preparation of the substrate: In the case of old masonry, completely remove the plaster to a height of approximately 50 cm above the moisture line. Thoroughly remove any crumbly sealing mortar between courses of bricks or between stones and wash thoroughly with pressurised water. Large cavities can be filled with broken bricks and mixed mortar.
On solid, stable and absorbent masonry, such as solid bricks or clay bricks, where there is no efflorescence and salt content is low, ‘Risan Spritz’ can be applied directly without an anchoring rough coat.
Where efflorescence is present (normally sulphate- and chloride-based, and in rare cases also nitrate-based), provided it is present in modest quantities, after removing it mechanically, a suitable anti-salt treatment must be carried out by applying the pure Antisale liquid product, using a flat brush or low-pressure spray, in a single generous coat (approx. 0.3–0.5 litres per m²). At least 24 hours after the anti-salt treatment, apply a covering rough coat, no thicker than 5 mm, using a rough coat mixed solely with water, applied by hand or using a plastering machine, or alternatively by preparing on-site a mixture based on cement, lime (preferably hydraulic or, alternatively, hydrated) and free-flowing sand in a volume ratio of 1:1:3, mixed with Neoplast Latex diluted 1:2 with water (indicative consumption of Neoplast Latex approx. 600 g/m²). Risan Spritz is applied to the set but not hardened scratch coat to a thickness of approx. 2 cm. Finish the render by levelling it with a straight edge. Avoid fine trowelling or smoothing with a trowel so as not to close the surface pores of the plaster and thus hinder the evaporation of moisture from the masonry.
For both internal and external walls, apply a finish using Finissimo, Finitura or Multifinish; alternatively, but only for internal walls, use a fine lime-based mortar, applying it as thinly as possible. Risan Spritz It may only be painted with highly breathable paints such as siloxane-based and silicate-based paints. Lime-based paints are also suitable for internal applications. If painting is not planned, these plasters – which are particularly exposed to rain – must, however, be subsequently impregnated with Promural Silicon (a transparent, breathable and water-repellent treatment based on siloxane polymers dissolved in solvent).
