Details

Neoplast Latex is a modifier for cements and hydraulic lime, based on specially formulated, very recently synthesised resins that are highly resistant to saponification and the effects of water, possess strong adhesive properties, and reduce the water-to-cement ratio whilst imparting excellent thixotropy to the mixture.

Instructions for use

For all types of application, Neoplast Latex must first be diluted with water in the volume ratios required for the various applications. Only this solution should then be used to mix the dry mixtures of cement and aggregates – prepared separately – adjusting their consistency to suit the specific requirements of each application.

Neoplast Latex must be stirred until completely homogeneous before use. Mortars modified with Neoplast Latex must not be applied at temperatures below +5 °C. Plaster, repairs, coatings, etc. must be kept damp for a few days. In all applications using Neoplast Latex, the preparation of the substrate must be carried out with the utmost care. It must be clean, sound, free from all traces of oils, greases, residues of release agents, anti-evaporation agents or paints, and suitably primed. Loose particles and cement crusts must be thoroughly removed. The substrate must also be pre-wetted until completely saturated. In all the applications described below, the general rules for the proper composition and application of mortars and concrete must be strictly observed:

  • clean sand with a good grain size distribution
  • correct cement content
  • the lowest possible water-to-cement ratio
  • prevent the mixture from drying out too quickly
  • protection from low temperatures and wind
  • proper arrangement of joints

For the base coat of plaster (rough coat):

  1. Prepare a mixture of cement:lime:gravel in a volume ratio of 1:1:3.
  2. Dilute 1 part by volume of ‘Neoplast Latex’ with 2 parts by volume of water.
  3. Mix the cement–lime–sand mixture with the diluted Neoplast Latex until a mortar of suitable consistency is obtained for application with a trowel as a scratch coat (approx. 18%).
  4. As soon as the spray coat has set slightly, proceed to apply standard plaster or plaster treated with Neantol to make it water-repellent.
  5. Consumption normally ranges between 200 and 600 g per m².

For repairs, filling and re-casting:

  1. Mix equal volumes of cement and clean sand.
  2. Dilute 1 part by volume of Neoplast Latex with 1 part by volume of water.
  3. Mix the cement-sand mixture with the diluted Neoplast Latex until a very fluid mortar (slurry) is obtained. Spread this slurry onto the suitably prepared substrate (as described above) by brushing vigorously with a stiff broom or applying with a brush for minor repair work.
  4. Apply the repair mortar or top-up concrete to this bonding coat whilst it is still fresh.
  5. Coverage: approx. 300 g per m².
  6. For repairs and thin overlays, we recommend adding approximately 10 per cent Neoplast Latex, based on the weight of the mortar binder. This percentage is achieved by first diluting 1 part by volume of Neoplast Latex with 4 parts by volume of water and then mixing the mortar with the Neoplast Latex diluted in this way.

In sealing mortars:
As it is extremely important in this case that the sealing mortar exhibits the lowest possible shrinkage, a homogeneous but very stiff mortar must be prepared.

Mortar composition: 1 part by volume of cement:
3 parts by volume of sand (the grain size will depend on the dimensions of the joint, crack, cavity, etc. to be sealed).

Mixing solution:
1 part by volume of Neoplast Latex
4 parts by volume of water

For tile bonding:
By using Neoplast Latex in combination with a powdered adhesive, a waterproof, highly adhesive bonding bed with good chemical resistance is obtained (for swimming pools, industrial flooring and wall cladding, etc.).

  1. Dilute 1 part by volume of Neoplast Latex with 1 part by volume of water.
  2. Mix the adhesive with 40 per cent of Neoplast Latex, diluted as above.
  3. Follow the instructions for use of the adhesive.

The mixture must be applied generously to create a continuous and therefore waterproof adhesive bed. In the case of particularly demanding applications such as swimming pools, drinking water tanks, etc., and tiles with a highly profiled underside, it is essential to apply the adhesive to the back of the tile as well to avoid voids.

Storage

Neoplast Latex must be protected from frost. When kept in its original, unopened packaging, it remains stable for at least 12 months.
