Details

A modifier for cements and hydraulic limes, based on specially formulated latexes that are resistant to saponification and the effects of water, and possess strong adhesive properties; it reduces the water-to-cement ratio whilst imparting excellent thixotropy to the mix.

Instructions for use

In all applications involving Neoplast Grip, the substrate must be prepared with the utmost care. It must be clean, sound and free from all traces of oil, grease, residues of formwork release agents, anti-evaporation agents or paint, and suitably primed. Loose particles and cement crusts must be thoroughly removed. The substrate must also be pre-wetted until completely saturated. In all the applications described below, it is essential to strictly observe the general rules governing the correct composition and application of mortars and concrete:

  • clean sand with a good grain size distribution
  • correct cement content
  • the lowest possible water-to-cement ratio
  • prevent the mixture from drying out too quickly
  • protection from low temperatures and wind
  • appropriate joint placement.

Following the application of renders, coatings and repairs using mortars modified with Neoplast Grip, these must be kept damp for a few days.

Special applications
A. Base coat for renders (rough coat)

  1. Mix the following proportions:
2–3 parts of ungraded sand (preferably 0/4)
1 part lime to cement in a 1:1 ratio
  2. Dilute 1 part by volume of Neoplast Grip with 2 parts by volume of water.
  3. Mix the lime:cement–sand mixture with the diluted Neoplast Grip until a mortar of suitable consistency is obtained for application with a trowel as a skim coat (18%–20%).
  4. As soon as the skim coat has set slightly, proceed to apply standard plaster or water-repellent plaster treated with NEANTOL.

B. Repairs, filling and concrete jointing

  1. Mix equal volumes of cement and clean sand.
  2. Dilute 1 part by volume of Neoplast Grip with 1 part by volume of water.
  3. Mix the cement-sand mixture with the diluted Neoplast Grip until a very fluid mortar (slurry) is obtained. Spread this slurry over the suitably prepared substrate (as described above), brushing vigorously with a stiff broom or applying with a brush for minor repair work.
  4. Apply the repair mortar or top-up concrete to this still-fresh bonding coat.

For repairs and thin overlays, we recommend adding approximately 10 per cent of ‘Neoplast Grip’ by weight of the mortar binder. This percentage is achieved by first diluting 1 part by volume of Neoplast Grip with 4 parts by volume of water and then mixing the mortar with the Neoplast Grip thus diluted.

C. Sealing mortars
As it is extremely important in this case that the sealing mortar exhibits the lowest possible shrinkage, a homogeneous but very stiff mortar must be prepared.

Mortar composition
1 part by volume of cement
3 parts by volume of sand (the grain size will depend on the dimensions of the joint, crack, cavity, etc. to be sealed).

Mixing solution
1 part by volume of Neoplast Grip
4 parts by volume of water

D. Tile bonding
By using Neoplast Grip in combination with the PIASTRELLITE MASTER PLUS powder adhesive, a waterproof, highly adhesive bonding bed with good chemical resistance is obtained (for swimming pools, industrial flooring and wall cladding, etc.). By mixing PIASTRELLITE MASTER PLUS with NEOPLAST GRIP diluted 1:1, an adhesive bed is obtained that meets the C2 requirements of EN 12004. If compliance with specification S1 or S2 of EN 12002 is also required, we recommend using our ANTOL FLEX (see the relevant technical data sheet).

  1. Dilute 1 part by volume of Neoplast Grip with 1 part by volume of water.
  2. Mix PIASTRELLITE MASTER PLUS with 28% of Neoplast Grip, diluted as described above.
  3. Follow the instructions for using PIASTRELLITE MASTER PLUS.

Apply the mixture generously to create a continuous and therefore waterproof adhesive bed. In the case of particularly demanding applications such as swimming pools, drinking water tanks, etc., and tiles with a highly profiled underside, it is essential to apply the adhesive to the back of the tile as well to avoid voids (the ‘buttering-floating’ method).

Storage

When kept in its original, unopened packaging and stored at temperatures between +5 °C and +35 °C, the product remains stable for at least 12 months.

Warnings

Neoplast Grip must be stirred until completely homogeneous before use. Mortars modified with Neoplast Grip must not be applied at temperatures below +5 °C.
