Epox Grip

Epoxy resin for the pre-treatment of absorbent surfaces prior to the application of epoxy or polyurethane resins, or waterproofing products from the Polyurea range. It can be used as a primer or for the creation of quartz-filled epoxy screeds, as it complies with the requirements of standard EN 13813.

Resina epossidica per il trattamento preliminare di superfici assorbenti prima della posa di resine epossidiche, poliuretaniche o impermeabilizzazioni della gamma Polyurea.

Application areas

Choose Epox Grip for

  • Suitable as an adhesion promoter on absorbent surfaces, for epoxy, polyurethane and polyurea resin systems in general.
  • Can be used as a binder for high-strength mortars.
  • Preparation of filled mortars, screeds, self-levelling compounds, trowelled resin coatings, multi-layer systems, finishes and skim-coat finishes.
  • Suitable for the construction of flooring for warehouses, workshops, yards, etc., where there is wheeled traffic, including heavy traffic.

Instructions for use

Surface preparation
Surface preparation is essential; therefore, the surface to be treated must be free from any contaminants, dry, sound, and have a tensile strength of at least 1.5 MPa. In all cases, surface preparation must be carried out by sandblasting, milling, shot-blasting, grinding or sanding, depending on the type of surface. Any free-standing or stagnant water originating from the substrate, previous washing operations or weather conditions must be removed or dried using appropriate methods.

Product preparation
A two-component product to be thoroughly mixed at the time of use with a low-speed propeller mixer. Mix component B with component A for a few minutes until a homogeneous, lump-free mass of uniform colour is obtained. Add 100% (1:1) 0.1–0.3 mm quartz sand tEpox Grip. The product must be applied at a temperature between +5°C and +35°C.

Application
Epox Grip must be applied by roller or trowel depending on the desired finish. When laying epoxy screeds, use Epox Grip as a primer at a rate of 300 to 500 g/m² of product. Apply the epoxy mortar, consisting of one part binder, Epox Grip and five parts of controlled-grain-size quartz, to the fresh substrate. Allow the necessary curing time depending on the temperature (approximately 2–3 hours), then proceed with manual or mechanical smoothing. As soon as possible, level the surface by thickening Epox Grip with quartz, powder or another thickening agent.

Cleaning of tools
Tools must be cleaned with a thinner after use.

Storage

When kept in its original sealed packaging, stored in a dry, sheltered place at a temperature between +5 °C and +35 °C, the product has a shelf life of 12 months.

Warnings

  • Do not apply ‘Epox Grip’ to substrates affected by rising damp if an epoxy or polyurethane resin system is to be applied subsequently, or if the residual moisture content exceeds 4%.
  • Do not dilute ‘Epox Grip’ with solvents or water.
  • Do not apply Epox Grip to substrates contaminated with oils, greases or general dirt.
  • Do not mix partial quantities of the components to avoid errors in the mixing ratios, which would result in the product not curing correctly.
  • The substrate temperature must be at least +5°C.
