Operating temperature
The substrate must be clean, solid and sufficiently rough. Remove all loose or non-adherent parts, any existing plaster, dust, mould and any other elements that could compromise the adhesion of the product, either manually or with mechanical tools. High-pressure washing or sandblasting may be suitable for removing efflorescence, traces of oil, grease or other contaminants. The joints between the bricks must be properly filled. Any cavities, gaps or cracks in the masonry must be filled at least two days before application by repointing or ‘unstitching and restitching’. Before application, moisten the substrate evenly to prevent it from absorbing too much water from the mixture, which would compromise the performance of the mortar. Remove excess water before applying the product.
In the case of reinforced plaster or hoods, apply the metal or composite mesh after applying the first layer of plaster, securing it firmly to the existing masonry. The connectors must be compatible with the type of mesh used. For fibreglass mesh, we recommend compatible L-shaped connectors, approximately 4–5 pieces/m², to be chemically fixed with Xtreme Grip Vinylester, a two-component vinyl ester resin-based anchor.
The two layers of plaster intended to incorporate the mesh must be applied wet on wet.
Product preparation
Rocksolid M30 must be prepared according to the chosen application method:
• Machine application: using a screw-type plastering machine (such as Turbosol) or a three-phase continuous cycle mixing pump (such as PFT G4), following the manufacturer’s instructions for setting the mixing and pumping parameters.
• Manual application: mix the product in a glass concrete mixer, gradually adding clean water until a smooth, lump-free consistency is obtained.
• Small quantities: can be mixed with a low-speed electric drill equipped with a whisk mixer to ensure uniform distribution of binders and aggregates.
Use only the amount of water indicated in the technical data sheet. Avoid adding water after mixing has begun, so as not to compromise performance.
Machine application
Mix Rocksolid M30 in a continuous mixing plastering machine, adjusting the water to approximately 320–340 l/h, until a homogeneous consistency is obtained. Use pumps suitable for the type of aggregate. Apply the product in layers up to 40 mm thick (minimum 10 mm), from bottom to top. For greater thicknesses, apply in several coats, leaving the previous coat rough. After a few minutes, level and finish the surface with a trowel (plastic, wood or sponge), according to the desired effect. Avoid application on surfaces that are too hot or exposed to wind. In case of high temperatures or low humidity, protect the surface or spray water for the first 24–36 hours.
Manual application
Mix Rocksolid M30 with approximately 16% clean water (equal to 4–4.25 litres of water per 25 kg bag) in a glass mixer, using a mechanical agitator (low speed drill with a special propeller) until the mixture is homogeneous and free of lumps. Apply with a trowel in layers of approximately 20 mm. For repointing or jointing, spread the mortar at the base and insert the masonry elements with light pressure. For exposed joints, apply a layer at least 2 cm thick and clean with water and a sponge float before hardening. In the case of exposed masonry, remove any excess product with water and a sponge float.
Finishing
Before applying further skim coats or finishes, wait for the plaster to cure completely: approximately 7 days/cm of thickness. If no decorative finish is planned, in the case of surfaces exposed to atmospheric agents, the plaster can be protected with Promural Silicon, a ready-to-use, transparent, vapour-permeable, water-repellent impregnating agent based on siloxane polymers dissolved in solvent.
Cleaning
The tools used for application can be cleaned with water before the mortar hardens; afterwards, cleaning can only be done by mechanical removal.
