The substrate must be clean, solid and sufficiently rough. Remove all loose or non-adherent parts, any existing plaster, dust, mould and any other elements that could compromise the adhesion of the product, either manually or with mechanical tools. Pressure wash to remove salt efflorescence, traces of oil, grease or other contaminants.
The joints between the bricks must be properly filled. Any cavities, gaps or marks in the masonry must be filled at least two days before application by repointing or ‘unstitching and restitching’, using the same Rocksolid Lime M15 mortar in combination with stone, brick or tuff elements that are as compatible as possible with the original materials. Before application, evenly moisten the substrate to prevent it from absorbing too much water from the mixture, which could compromise the performance of the mortar. Remove any excess water before applying the product.
In the case of reinforced plaster or hoods, apply the metal or composite mesh after applying the first layer of plaster, fixing it securely to the existing masonry. The connectors must be compatible with the type of mesh used. For fibreglass meshes, we recommend compatible ‘L’ connectors, approximately 4-5 pieces/m², to be chemically fixed with Xtreme Grip Vinylester, a two-component vinyl ester resin-based anchor.
The two layers of plaster intended to incorporate the mesh must be applied wet on wet, taking care to maintain the roughness of the previous layer.
Product preparation
Rocksolid Lime M15 must be prepared according to the chosen application method:
Use only the amount of water indicated in the technical data sheet. Avoid adding water after mixing has begun, so as not to compromise performance.
Machine application
Mix Rocksolid Lime M15 in a continuous mixing plastering machine, adjusting the water to approximately 320–340 l/h, until a homogeneous consistency is obtained. Use pumps suitable for the type of aggregate. Apply the product in layers approximately 40 mm thick, working from the bottom upwards. For greater thicknesses, apply several coats, leaving the previous one rough. After a few minutes, level and finish the surface with a trowel (plastic, wood or sponge), according to the desired effect. Avoid application on surfaces that are too hot or exposed to wind. In case of high temperatures or low humidity, protect the surface or spray water for the first 24–36 hours.
Manual application
Mix Rocksolid M 15 Lime with approximately 16% clean water (equal to 4 litres of water per 25 kg bag) in a glass mixer, using a mechanical agitator (low speed drill with a special propeller) until the mixture is homogeneous and free of lumps. Apply with a trowel in layers of no more than 40 mm per coat. For repointing or joint repair, spread the mortar at the base and insert the masonry elements with light pressure. In exposed joints, apply a layer at least 2 cm thick and clean with water and a sponge float before hardening.
Finishing
Before applying skim coats or finishes, wait for the plaster to cure completely: approximately 7 days/cm of thickness. Use paints or coatings that do not significantly alter the breathability of the plaster, such as Finish Siloxan, a smooth siloxane paint. If no decorative finish is planned, in the case of surfaces exposed to atmospheric agents, the plaster can be protected with Promural Silicon, a ready-to-use, transparent, vapour-permeable, water-repellent impregnating agent based on siloxane polymers dissolved in solvent.
Cleaning
The tools used for application can be cleaned with water before the mortar hardens; afterwards, cleaning can only be done by mechanical removal.
Store in a dry, sheltered place. It will keep for at least 12 months in its original sealed packaging.
